ATTACHMENT METHODS SCALP PREPARATION
Clean residue from your scalp with a wet towel or cloth. Using a paper towel and adhesive remover rub vigorously until your scalp is clear of any residue. Clean any excessive solvent from scalp.
Next, shower and wash your entire head, hair and scalp thoroughly until squeeky clean.
Note: adhesive remover residue can break down and shorten the duration of your bond.
After showering, be sure to dry your head and scalp with a towel and/or blow dryer, removing all excess moisture.
Remove or shave any hair or stubble from the bonding area. We recommend using an electric screen razor or clippers for the shave.
Last, we highly recommend applying a layer of waterproof sealant, such as our Scalp Prep, to your skin. This will help protect your skin as well as encourage adhesion with the toupee tape or adhesive. (Allow the Scalp Prep to completely dry before attaching your hair system.)
After you have completed the scalp preparation and it is completely dry, you will then be ready to attach your hair system!
TAPE ATTACHMENT
Your first step is to apply the toupee tape to under part of the base of the hair system. Start by finding a contour that matches the shape of the outer edge of your base. If there isn\'t a contour that matches, simply cut a strip to form to the contour.
Peel off the split liner from the double sided tape.
When applying the tape, place it as close to the outer edge as possible. Press the tape down firmly.
Once the tape has been applied to the base, peel the backing off the tape strips.
Next, slowly place the unit onto your head. We reccommend applying alcohol to the scalp frst. This will prevent the tape adhesive from immediately sticking to the skin and provide a few seconds so you can adjust the hair system into the right place.
Once the unit is on your head, carefully apply pressure to all the tape areas. Now your hair system is secure, and ready for styling.
Quick Tip: Some base materials have a coating from the manufacture that prevents the tape from adhering to the base. Using a hair drier to heat the tape will imporve adhesion. Once the hairpiece is in place the heat from you head will desolve the adhesive for a firm adhesiion.
Daily Wear Hair System Attachment Tips
If you take your hair system off everyday or every one to three days, the tips below are for you. Or, try our clear redline tape.
Always clean and prepare your scalp as above to properly before attaching the system.
Use redline clear-liner tape on the polyurethane surfaces and for best results, change the tape every time you put the system back on or refresh the tape with a daily adhesive.
If you don\'t want to remove and replace the toupee tape every time, you can re-activate it with a thin coat of liquid hairpiece adhesive right before you place the unit back on your head.
Applying hairpiece tape to your lace system and attaching the unit to your head.
Wearing a Full Lace or Lace Front Hair System?
The key to daily wear with lace material is to always keep the toupee tape attached to the unit (not your scalp) when taking your hair system off. Removing the tape daily on lace will fray the front edge and pull hair out of the system. Alway use and adhesive for removal of a lace system.
Because the blue, no messy residue and proflex tape hairpiece adhesives have so much more tack than the white, the key for using them on lace material for daily wear is proper removal so it doesn\'t tear.
To reactivate the toupee tape, use a very thin coat of liquid adhesive on top of the tape before re-attaching your system. (We recommend removing the tape from your hairpiece for cleaning every 1-2 weeks)
Airborne dust will attach itself to the adhesive in the front edge of lace units and may become visible over time. Immediately after a shower is the easiest time to clean this area because the adhesive is pliable. Spray a liberal amount of Adjust-a-Bond on the tip of a double folded tissue. Hold your hair system back with one hand and wipe the edge of the lace using the saturated tissue with the other hand. This trick will help keep your lace front edge invisible at all times.
Extended Wear Hair System Attachment Tips
If you wear your hair system for an extended time before taking it off, use the tips below for a longer-lasting hair replacement bonding.
We recommend using Ultra Hold liquid adhesives, blue liner tape, non messy residue, or Pro Flex bonding strips for extented wear.
Always clean and prepare your scalp properly before attaching the hair system as stated above.
If you wear a lace, monofilament, silk, or nylon base place tape on the unit and apply the adhesive to the tape. This makes for easy clean up. On skin we recommend using Ultra Hold Adhesive directly on to the skin base.
After applying the adhesive let it air dry for at least 5 minutes before placing the unit on your head to prevent the adhesive from oozing into the hair.
For a maximum hold apply adhesive to the scalp and tape.
Note:
After showering or presparation, the bond might seem like it is weakening. This is expected, but the bond has softened a bit due to extra heat and moisture etc. Do not move the hairpiece as your body cools, the bond will harden again.
The front edge of lace and monofilament units may dirty and visible over time. After a shower is the best time to clean this area because the hairpiece adhesive is soft and removable. Spray a liberal amount of solvent on the tip of a piece of paper towel. Hold the hair piece back with one hand and wipe the edge of the lace using the saturated paper towel with the other hand. This will help keep your lace front edge invisible. Add additional adhesive under the lace if need and press back in place.
Recommended toupee tapes:
Every type of hairpiece tape has a different level of tack, and depending on how long you like to wear your system will determine which type of hairpiece tape is best. Information below will help you decide.
Wear Time: You Should Use
1-3 Days
1-2 Weeks No Messy Residue
1-3 Weeks Blue tape with Red tape underneath for easy clean-up
2-4 Weeks Proflex toupee tape with Red tape underneath for easy clean-up
Clips
When using clips it is nessecary to order your hairpiece a half inch longer and one inch wider. This will allow and over lap for the clips to attach to the hair.
Clips can be used as the only source of attachment or used with a combination of tape, adhesive and chips,
It is custom to put one clips on each sides and one in the back, and using tape or adhesive to attach the front of the hairpiece. Of course you can use more or less clips as needed.\
Note: Clips can damage your hair and it is recommended the clips are move to different location when ordering a new uuni.
